Lloerigion

Lunatics

Ar Fwrdd y Gwarcheidwaid oedd y gyfrifoldeb am ofalu am loerigion. Sefydlwyd Gwallgofdy ar y cyd i Sir Aberteifi, Sir Benfro a Sir Gaerfyrddin yng Nghaerfyrddin. Anfonwyd pobl o Undeb Aberystwyth (a oedd yn cynnwys Llangynfelyn) yno.

Cedwir dwy 'Cofrestrau Lloerigion yn y Gwallgofdy' ar gyfer Undeb Aberystwyth yn Archifdy Ceredigion. Nid oes neb o Langynfelyn yn yr un cyntaf (CBG 1229), am 1883-6. Mae'r ail (CBG 1230) am 1889-1896, yn cynnwys y cofnodion isod:

The Poor Law Guardians were responsible for the care of the insane. A joint asylum for the counties of Cardiganshire, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire was established in Carmarthen, to which people were sent from the Aberystwyth Union (which included Llangynfelyn).

Two 'Registers of Lunatics in the Asylum' for the Aberystwyth Union are preserved in the County Archives. The first (CBG 1229) for the years 1883-6 lists no-one from Llangynfelyn. The second, (CBG 1230), for the years 1889-96, contains the following Llangynfelyn entries:

8 August 1889 John Morris Jones, aged 46, admitted to Carmarthen.

Undated (1895-6) Anne Davies, aged 33, admitted to Carmarthen.

Efallai mae nifer o'r cofnodion eraill yn perthyn i drigolion Llangynfelyn, ond nid oes cofnod o blwyf cartref i bawb.

It is possible that some of the other entries relate to residents of Llangynfelyn, but cannot be identified as no home parish is recorded.
