| Mae mynychder uchel rhai cyfenwau yng Nghymru yn peri galar i lawer o haneswyr. Dyma dadansoddiad o'r cyfenwau yn argraffiad cyfoes y llyfr ffôn am Ganolbarth Cymru. Mae'r llyfr yn cynnwys 178 tudalen o rhifau preifat, gyda phedwar colofn ar bob tudalen, sef 712 colofn.
Mae John Rowlands yn Second Stages in Researching Welsh Ancestry (tud.162) yn cofnodi bod yn 1856 y 10 cyfenwau mwyaf cyffredin oedd yn gyfrifol am 55.85% y bobl yng Nghymru. ac weithiau mwy na hynny mewn llefydd arbenigol. Erbyn hyn, mae'r canran wedi gostwng, gyda'r 10 cyfenw flaenaf yn gyfrifol am 28% yn unig. Efallai bydd ein gwefan ONS-names o ddiddordeb i chi: databas yw hwn wedi'i arlwyo gan y Swyddfa Ystadegau Genedlaethol sy'n cynnwys pob cyfenw yng Nghymru a Lloegr, a'r nifer o bobl gyda phob un enw. |
The high frequency of certain names in Wales is a cause of grief to many historians. As a matter of interest, here is an analysis of the names in the current edition of the Aberystwyth, Brecon and Mid-Wales phone book. The book contains 178 pages of private phone numbers, 4 columns to a page. i.e. 712 columns.
John Rowlands in Second Stages in Researching Welsh Ancestry (p.162) records that in 1856 the 10 most common surnames accounted for 55.85% of the population of Wales, but that locally that could be even higher. Today the proportion is less, with the top 10 names in Mid-Wales now only accounting for 28%.
