Scholarship Exam for the County School

Amcan yr arholiad oedd penderfynu pwy fydd yn cael lle rhad neu ysgoloriaeth i'r County School yn Aberystwyth. Mae'n amlwg bod sefyll yr arholiad hyd yn oed yn gamp gryn: ni chyflwynwyd yr un ymgeisydd gan sawl ysgolion ers sawl blynyddoedd.

The exam was to determine who would receive free places and scholarships at the County schools. Even sitting the exam seems to have been a considerable achievement: some village schools had not put forward a single candidate for several years.
