H.SYNDERCOMBE, Sec., 32 Moorgate-street, City, Dec.23 1853

Second report of Capt. William Verran on the Taliesin Mines, Cardiganshire, - Llanidloes Dec 26 1853 - On Friday last, the 23d inst., I again inspected the Taliesin Mines, South Wales, and am happy to say that I was much pleased to see these mines turning out agreeably to my report of July last. I have nothing new to comment upon, but instead of 60cwt. of ore at surface then, you have now, I believe, full 60 tons of excellent quality, worth, say at least £15 per ton, equal to £900; and from the appearance of the mines to the shallow depth of the adit, and the quantity of lodes discovered, I believe you will soon have one of the best lead mines in Wales. Your best and only plan will be to put up the steam engine at once, and fork the water to the bottom of the 18-fathom level - to continue working until the south lode is cut, and for the present to discontinue working on the 17 and 20 other lodes. From the No.8 lode alone you will be making handsome dividends, and in my opinion you may safely calculate on making a large profit, and have a lasting good mine for an age to come.
WILLIAM VERRAN
