Tithe List - Preamble

Apportionment of the Rent Charge in lieu of Tithes in the parish of Llancynfelyn,
in the County of Cardigan.
Whereas an Award of Rent Charge in lieu of Tithes in the parish of Llancynfelyn in the County of Cardigan was on the sixth day of June in the year One thousand eight hundred and forty four confirmed by the Tithe Commissioners for England and Wales, of which Award with the Schedule therein comprised the following is a Copy :-
Whereas I John Johnes have been duly appointed and sworn an Assistant Tithe Commissioner, according to the provisions of the Act for the Commutation of Tithes in England and Wales and have been also duly appointed to ascertain and award the Total Sum to be paid by way of Rent Charge instead of the Tithes of the parish of Llancynfelyn in the County of Cardigan.
        
And whereas I have held divers meetings touching the matter aforesaid of which meetings due notice was given for the information of the Landowners and Titheowners of the said parish -
        
And whereas I have duly considered all the allegations and proofs tendered to me by all parties interested and have myself made all enquiries touching the premised subject which appeared to me to be necessary -
        
And whereas I find that all the lands of the said parish are covered from tender of the tithes of milk and calves in kind by the prescription or customary payment of the annual sum of Two pence and one half penny to the Impropriator of the Tithes of the said parish for each and every Cow depastured during the year on such lands -
        
And that all other tithes arising from or accruing due upon all the lands of the said parish are payable in kind
        
And whereas I find that the estimates quantity in Statute Measure of all the lands of the said parish amounts to five thousand and sixty four acres which are cultivated or used as follows, that is to say -
        Eight hundred and fifty seven acres as arable land -
        Two thousand nine hundred and thirty two acres as Meadow or Pasture -
        Five hundred and thirty nine acres as Woodland -
        Six hundred and forty seven acres as Turbery -
        Forty acres as roads -
        Thirty nine acres in Homesteads -
        And ten acres are covered by water -
        And whereas I have estimated the clear annual value of the said Tithes in the manner directed by the said Act of Parliament and having also taken into account the rates and assessments paid in respect thereof during the seven years of average presecribed by the said Act -
        
And whereas I find that Sir John Palmer Bruce Chichester of Arlington in the County of Devon, Baronet, is Impropriator of all the Tithes arising from and accruing due upon all the lands of the said parish -
        
Now know ye that I the said John Johnes do hereby award that the annual sum of Two hundred and twenty pounds by way of Rent Charge subject to the provisions of the said Act, shall from the first day of January immediately preceding the confirmation of the apportionment of the said Rent Charge be paid to the said Impropriator his heirs and assigns, or to the person entitled in remainder or reversion after him, instead of all the Tithes arising from or accruing due upon all the lands of the said parish -
        
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and forty four -

Now I William Fosbrooke of Budge Street in the parish of Saint John the Baptist in the City of Hereford, having been duly appointed valuer to apportion the Total Sum awarded to be paid by way of Rent Charge in lieu of Tithes, amongst the several lands of the said parish of Llancynfelyn, Do hereby apportion the Rent Charge as follows :-

Gross Rent Charge payable to the Titheowner in lieu of Tithes, for the Parish of Llancynfelyn in the County of Cardigan Two hundred and twenty pounds -

Value in Imperial Bushels, and Decimal parts of an Imperial Bushel of Wheat, Barley and Oats :- viz
